Demigod to millions of cricket fans around the world, Sachin Tendulkar is perhaps the greatest batsman the world has seen after the great Sir Don Bradman. Playing international cricket from age 16, breaking and setting records all along, Sachin Tendulkar is indeed a gift to the cricketing world.
The Superman of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar was born in Mumbai. His mother Rajni worked in the insurance industry,and his father Ramesh Tendulkar, a Marathi novelist, named Tendulkar after his favourite music director, Sachin Dev Burman. Tendulkar's elder brother Ajit encouraged him to play cricket. Tendulkar has two other siblings: a brother Nitin, and sister Savita.

1994: Arjuna Award Receipient for achievements in Cricket
1997: Tendulkar was one of the five cricketers selected as Wisden Cricketer of the Year
1997/98: India's highest sporting honour - Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna
1999: Padma Shri - India's civilian medal of recognition
2008: Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award.
